Supreme Court of Western Australia Lift Installation

Due to pressures associated with providing additional courtrooms on the first floor, access to basement records and to satisfy access and mobility within public places, TAG were commissioned to establish the most viable location for a lift that would also satisfy future planning directions.

The existing building is planned internally around a number of light wells and the existing north-west light well was considered the best long term location to reduce the impact on the existing heritage building fabric. Accordingly a free standing lift shaft was ‘inserted’ into the light well without compromise to light and ventilation of the adjoining rooms and offices.

In 2007 the WA Chapter Institute of Architects awarded this project a Heritage Council Conservation Commendation.
