Mundijong Police Station

The design proposal attempts to be sympathetic to Mundijong’s rural aesthetic in a building that clearly reflects its civic role and importance in the local community. The vision for the new Mundijong Police Station is for an interactive community hub facility while promoting a non-threatening and respectful public image for WA Police.

The building has a bold but equally welcoming rural aesthetic whilst still attaining a level of gravitas and civic presence that identifies the facility as a Police Station. The continual wrapping of the roof material into wall material on the external fabric of the building provides a protective ‘skin’ to the station whilst responding to the rural aesthetic; this concept is carried through to the entirety of the development. Facades that are intentionally left ‘un-skinned’ are approachable and friendly to staff and to members of the public. The low-scaled building form and clear entry / long access approach again reflect the rural context of the Mundijong surroundings.
