Main Roads WA Northam Administration Building

The project involved the redevelopment of the existing Main Roads WA office in Northam which was managed in three stages to enable the ongoing operation of the existing office and depot during the construction of the new facility.

The design is civic in scale but sympathetic to Northam’s abundant heritage and semi-rural architectural character. Sustainability initiatives comprising of optimised building fabric, natural ventilation and night purge, double glazing, increased natural daylight, BMS controlled sun shading of critical facades, low VOC emissions, cycling facilities, low flow / efficient water fixtures, energy efficient lighting, 30kW photovoltaic system, solar thermal hot water system and recycle and reuse of construction waste. It is estimated that the office will benefit from approximate 67% reduction in electricity consumption and 58% percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to a standard practice building.
