Bunbury Regional Prison Minimum Security Unit + Health Upgrade

TAG Architects in association with HASSELL

The new 72 bed minimum security unit is a campus style facility planned along principles of a normalised community environment. Clustered self-care housing units are informally arranged with views to central recreation areas. Prisoners access infrastructure buildings via main arterial routes that encourage activation of the main civic precinct. Health, education, social services and an internal “supermarket” equip prisoners with necessary skills to prepare for release.

Considered planning ensures a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors and prisoners. Appropriately scaled buildings are constructed from familiar, robust materials. A selective palette of colours are applied for visual association and way finding.
